Keep Your Co-Pilot Sharp: How to Update Your NextRide Firmware
Keeping your NextRide device up to date ensures you have the latest features and best performance. Here is the standard procedure to update your firmware using a microSD card.
🛠️ Update Steps
1. Format the SD Card
Insert your microSD card into the device. Navigate to the settings menu and format the card directly on the device. (Note: After formatting, the SD card should be in FAT32 format.)
2. Prepare & Copy the File
Remove the card and connect it to your computer. Copy the update file to the root directory of the card.
Important: If your download arrives as a
.ziparchive or inside a folder, you must extract it first. Only the raw file (typically a .bin or .img file) should be moved to the card. Ensure it is not placed inside any folder, or the system will not trigger the update.
3. Insert the Card
Eject the card from your computer and insert it back into the NextRide device.
4. Start the Update
Power on the unit. A system prompt will automatically appear on the screen. Click Confirm to begin the process.
5. Completion
Wait for the progress bar to reach 100%. The device will restart automatically once finished.
📡 A Note on WiFi & OTA Updates
"I see WiFi in the settings. Can I update over the air?"
We get this question a lot! Yes, your NextRide unit is equipped with a high-speed WiFi module. The hardware is fully future-proofed.
Currently, we rely on SD Card updates because it is the most stable, fail-safe method to rewrite core system files without the risk of connection drops during a ride or in a garage with spotty signal.
However, the future is wireless. Since the hardware is already inside your device, we are actively exploring and testing Over-The-Air (OTA) update functionality for future software releases. Stay tuned!
